Sony PS2-smashin’ the opposition down ‘ere in Aussieland?

by Tommy Tseng

Hey guys,

PS2 smash

Interesting news today! It seems that the Sony PS2 has come back rumbling from the shadows and has beaten most of the opposition - in Australia! It fell behind the Nintendo DS, though it did smash the Wii in sales! The Wii won the next-gen sales for this quarter, however the sales numbers for Australia from the quarter of July to the end of September for the PS2 goes to a whopping 66228 consoles, ahead of most of the competition (Wii, Xbox 360, PSP, PS3)

Here’s the sales for ya’ll to wonder in awe:

Nintendo DS
2007 Q3 sales: 139,483
Total install base: 730,076

PlayStation 2
2007 Q3 sales: 66,228
Total install base: 2,118,646

Nintendo Wii
2007 Q3 sales: 61,027
Total install base: 167,899 (launched December 2006)

Xbox 360
2007 Q3 sales: 40,467
Total install base: 222,136 (launched March 2006)

PlayStation Portable
2007 Q3 sales: 28,374
Total install base: 317,442

PlayStation 3
2007 Q3 sales: 27,533
Total install base: 82,261 (launched March 2007)

This time, PS2 wins ;)

Also, yesterday I got in the mail (e-mail) this:

PS3_40_GB.PNG

(By the way, if you haven’t figured out yet, I live in AUS, so the European price will apparently be 399 Euros.)

Woo! Sorry you can’t see that well, if it was full-size the layout with the text and everything would become quite the weird as has happened in earlier posts. Bad news that I have found about this is that the PS3 will NOT be backwards compatible, and feature 2 USB ports and no multimedia card reader. SCEE (Sony Computer Entertainment Europe) has also confirmed that the 40GB model will have a ‘matte’ finish instead of the glossy black ones such as on the 60 and 80GB units. Wait…they also said that it would come in ‘Satin Silver’!
This is indeed great news! Finally PS3 owners can start getting those sexy silver PS3s so envied at E3 and other trade shows!

You can also find news about this here. Dunno how the 5 sexy close-up shots of the (black) PS3 has to do with this, but then again, they probably don’t know about the silver yet :P

And yet again PS3rally.com dominates its opposition Xbox360rally.com. As seen in their latest post, they want to leave :O to cover a whole lot of gaming news at 1pstart.com. Which means they’ll be covering Sony and PS3 news, meaning they’re finally seeing the light.

If you like the Xbox 360 and love to write, come join our friendly 451 Press Corporation. Just send in a form HERE, and wait for a response. It’s not that hard, come on even I got in ;)
