PS3 Sells 50K Down Under
In case you haven’t heard, the PS3 is pretty darn popular in the land of the Kangaroo. More than once has the PS3 topped sales charts, repeatedly crushing my beloved Xbox 360 in recent weeks. Now it seems that, according to IGN, the PS3 has finally hit the 50,000 unit mark.
Now, the IGN article cites recent GfK figures which show that the Playstation 3 has, in fact, topped 50K. The interesting thing about the GfK report is the timing it took to hit 50K. While the Wii did it in three, and Xbox 360 in six weeks, the PS3 took a whole thirteen weeks to hit the 50,000 marker.

There are two very important things to note about this bit of news: The overall sales are influenced by the time of year it’s released — the PS3 was released this past March, while the Wii and 360 were both released down under in time for the 2006 holiday season. Also, we do not know if pre-orders are included in the weekly figures.
Secondly, the PS2 got off to a slow start and, last I heard, it did pretty well for itself.
