And…the PS3 is winning!

by Tommy Tseng

Controversial to all logic and physics, the demand for the PS3 actually topped that of the Xbox 360 and the Wii in the month of July!

Seems like the official price cut of the 60GB PS3 down $100 (USD), the PS3 was elevated to a higher demand position than the Xbox 360 OR the Wii in the United States, as a matter of fact. Sales spiked 144% following the price cut, and demand was up 50% throughout the entire month of July.

Although this lated just a few days, it shows that the PS3 does have a fan base going under it, ready to support it when the time is right (or when the price is right).

PS3 Failure rate-only 0.2%!

by Tommy Tseng

More news! and more, and more! (well facts this time)

Hey everybody!

Seems like Sony is reckoning that the PS3 will only have a failure rate of just 0.2%! This defies the industry’s usual estimate, at 3-5%.

And..this is very good! Seeming as the Xbox 360 is at 3% and a lot higher in some cases.

Remember in the early days when the Xbox 360’s would overheat and fry up in some cases~ Well this refers to that. And also the renowned and feared “red ring of death”.

Good news for the PS3, at last. Seems like Sony DOES come with quality, after all!

PS3 vs Xbox 360:Gamercards Counterstrike

by Tommy Tseng

Microsoft came up with a pretty awesome system:Gamercards. These cards followed you around with you wherever you went, linking you with every game you played.

Now Sony is striking back. With Gamercards, of course!
It seems that Sony has included Gamercards with its PS3 Home service, releasing this coming October! (That’s one month, guys!)

With Gamercards, all your achievements will be tracked and be part of the PS3 Trophy system-another counterstrike like the Xbox 360 Achievements.

Seemed like Sony dropped the bomb, and Microsoft couldn’t defuse and got blown up!

Unreal Tournament 3-the real deal!

by Tommy Tseng

It seems that Mark Rein of Epic Games (he’s the vice president) has stated that due to the Blu-ray format has allowed them to stack and pack more Unreal Tournament 3 onto the PS3 version, which may be much more than what the Xbox 360 will receive.

The Xbox 360 is only loaded with a DVD drive (now HD-DVD, correct me if I’m wrong), which means that the DVD it will be using cannot store NEARLY as much as the PS3’s blue ray disk. (50 GB vs 8 GB is it?) Microsoft once argued that it was not necessary to have that much storage space, however it seems they are wrong, very wrong.

You’d rather have heap loads more space on your media disks, which includes games, than just storage, like the 120 GB Xbox 360 Elite! Which is just encouraging piracy better, I’m guessing.

And according to Wikipedia, it seems that Sony has negotiated a deal to let Epic Games release Unreal Tournament 3 exclusively for the PS3 for the entirety of 2007, while the Xbox 360 version comes in 2008. Woo! Epic Games for the win!

Seems like Microsoft’s battle bot just got run over by Sony driving a Leviathan. (a massive truck/tank/ultimate 5 man fighting machine)

And the news just comes…rolling in

by Tommy Tseng

Hey guys!

Lots of news is coming, so be sure to stay tuned these few days for extra coverage on the PS3!

First off: COD4! Superiority! PS3!

As some of you may have noticed/read/known/was told, the Xbox 360 will get the better version of Madden NFL 2008. To counter this, however, it seems that the PS3 will be getting the superior version of CoD4!

Call of Duty 4, which won many awards at E3 2007, including best trailer and most anticipated game, will appear to have the superior version on the PS3, since the developers are loving what they are able to do on the hardware, with more success and freedom due to Blue-ray and additional power compared to the Xbox 360.

This means if you want the true Call of Duty experience, you’re gonna have to get the PS3 version. Oh yeah.

Call of Duty 4-official launch date!

by Tommy Tseng

Hey guys!

Interesting news today!

It seems that the highly-anticipated Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare has been given a launch date! Which is November 9, 2007 in Europe!

…Come to realise, it’s actually really soon! That’s like in..*counts in head* (August, September, October, November..)…4 months!

And with Crysis releasing on November 15th, this year’s November will be a popluar month for both gamers AND developers. ($$$)

It seems this announcement came from an Activision recent meeting, however a company spokesperson has added, “We can’t confirm or deny this, however it certainly shows that there is a lot of anticipation surrounding this release, which is clearly good for us.”.

So that means although it can’t be fully confirmed, it’s still close!

PS3-value for money!

by Tommy Tseng

Hey guys!

Here’s an interesting comparison that I thought I’d like to share with everybody: The PS3 value pack on Amazon is actually better and more feature packed than the Xbox 360 Elite pack!

Well well well…I had a look and…wow! Amazon sure packs a deal when you want it ;)

Alright, let’s see. The Xbox 360 Elite pack features an Xbox 360 Elite console (120 GB), 2 Black Wireless Controllers, Plug & Play Charge Kit and a Spiderman 3 Xbox 360 Game. Wow. All for just $699.99.

Now let’s switch over to the PS3 pack. A Playstation 3 (80 GB) which also includes Motorstorm is selling for $599.99. Now, that’s a $100 difference between the two.

Wait, but the Xbox 360 pack has 2 Black Wireless Controllers and a Plug & Play Charge Kit!

Well, now let’s see here…if you go to the PS3 article, you can see a ‘Best Value’ mini section. Inside it reads: “Buy PlayStation 3 (80 GB, includes Motorstorm) and get Sony Playstation 3 Wireless Controller at an additional 15% off Amazon.com’s everyday low price.”

Sony Playstation 3 Wireless Controller Total List Price: $649.98
Buy Together Today: $633.98
You Save: $16.00
(Buy both and save button here)

Oh and wait, what’s this I see on the page?

“Purchase a Sony PlayStation 3 and receive 5 FREE Blu-Ray movies. Purchase between July 1, 2007 and September 30, 2007, mail-in offer only. Click here for mail-in form and promotion detail.”

FIVE? Does that mean FIVE Blu-Ray movies? FREE?

Ok, so end of comparison. What’s the conclusion?

Xbox 360 Elite pack - $699.99
PS3 super pack -$633.98

Oh, and don’t forget that the PS3 has a Blu-ray player, while the Xbox 360 has a HD-DVD player. There isn’t much use for more hard drive space right now, so why get more space now when you can get it say, 5 years down the track at a significantly reduced price?

And…what more? The PS3 has built in wireless network functionality while the Xbox 360 requires a $100 add on wireless network adaptor! Now its $799.99. Cha-ching. Microsoft gets your money, and you lose on value.

So, now, I guess this short article (which took ages…) can clear up your minds on the PS3’s value on price. Don’t go buyin’ no Xbox 360 now, ya’ll hear?

By the way, I also found this on Amazon…I want it! (Not the game, of course, but the helmet.) Hmm…I could also get it off Ebay eh…

Special Special Fun Happy thing!

More shopping time!

SOE MMORPGS-Heading to the PS3!

by Tommy Tseng

Hey everybody!

More good news as it comes!

SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) has stated that they will be supporting the PS3 in a ‘big way’ with their MMORPGs! SOE has been famous for past popluar titles, such as Everquest, Planetside (one of the only MMORPGFPS? or MMOFPS), and Vanguard. Long ago, it was speculated that Star Wars:Galaxies was in development for the PS3. However, new fresh MMORPGs may go onto the PS3, which is suited for everything an MMORPG needs-plenty of hard drive storage space (content), mass processing power (amount of detail, especially the world and players), with the Playstation Network serving as an always-on connection for players to log in anytime.

Games could also be retail, with expansion packs also retail or distributed over the Playstation Network-perfect.

And there may even be cross-playing between PS3 and PC players! We shall see if that ever happens..however with the amount of hackers and hacking capabilities possible on the PC, it may not happen…

Time will tell~

Back-again!

by Tommy Tseng

Hey guys!

Sorry I couldn’t bring you any news….there was an internet problem at the servers…however we’re back on track and ready for more action!

BIG NEWS that came out this week: Crysis coming to the PS3!!!!
Apparentely, various sources here and there are claiming Crysis is coming to the PS3, and this has been furthered by GameStop advertising Crysis on PS3 boxes! Retailers usually won’t advertise a game for a console until it is absolutely confirmed from the publisher AND developer that it is coming to that console (in this case the PS3). So….Crysis is coming the the PS3!!!! Yay!

Also, there may be another PS3 price cut! It seems that the new one may be a response to the Xbox 360 price cut, since after the 60GB PS3 will no longer be at retail for $499, the only package left that Sony will be selling will be the 80GB PS3 at $599 bundled with Motorstorm. The 80GB PS3 actually has a smaller hard drive than the Xbox 360 Elite (120GB), which is now selling at $449, $150 less than the 80GB PS3. As games are around equal in visuals at the moment, it would seem sensible that you get the Xbox 360, unless you want to shell out an extra $150 for a blue ray player. This is of course not the case, as the PS3 is significantly better in terms of hardware, and as game developers and blue ray technology get better, it will only be a matter of time until PS3 games far surpass those of the Xbox 360, audially, visually, gameplay and content wise. Did I mention the SIXAXIS controller also has motion sensing capabilities and maybe a rumble feature in the future?

In conclusion (seems like I’m writing an essay), the PS3 price cut may indeed seem beneficial, even though it won’t be necessary in the future (PS3 surpassing Xbox 360 in terms of everything). Oh, and what was that-Crysis will be coming to the PS3 as well! We shall see if it stays PS3 and PC exclusive-even if it does go to the Xbox 360, visuals won’t be that good, eh!
