Hey guys,
It seems Ratchet & Clank came out yesterday! (October 30th!), in relation to it being on the same day as my birthday as seen in this post.

And on the same day, someone sent in a…’video’ which I checked out…

Thank you for showing me this…GunCom related incident :P

What’s weird is, it was a video response to this:

Devil May Cry 4

Capcom, developers of Devil May Cry 4, have also named a release ‘month’. And it is February next year (2008!) Also, the Xbox 360 is getting it as well! (”Aww” from the PS3 fans, “Yay” from the Xbox fans)

Here’s the press release in all its glory:

PRESS RELEASE: CAPCOM® CONFIRMS FEBRUARY RELEASE DATE FOR DEVIL MAY CRY® 4
Capcom® Entertainment, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today confirmed that Devil May Cry® 4, the latest installment in the multi-million selling franchise, will hit retail outlets this coming February for both the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.

The highly anticipated Devil May Cry 4 immerses gamers in a gothic supernatural world, where a new protagonist clashes with series mainstay Dante. As new leading man Nero players will be able to unleash incredibly powerful and stylish attacks and non-stop combos using a combination of the Devil Bringer arm and the Exceed system, both of which are new gameplay mechanics for the series. Fans of Dante won’t be disappointed as he too will be playable during the course of the game.

Set in the costal city of Fortuna, the game’s action begins when Dante bursts in on a ceremony being conducted by the Order of the Sword, an ancient sect based in the coastal city of Fortuna, which worships Sparda the devil warrior who saved mankind. As Dante begins indiscriminately slaughtering sect members Nero fears for the safety of his childhood friend Kyrie and confronts Dante in order to protect her.

With players taking control of Nero, the immense power of the Devil Bringer begins to be revealed as a fierce confrontation against Dante ensues. After an intense struggle Dante decides to leave this particular fight for another day and makes good his escape. Chasing after him Nero is suddenly stopped in his tracks as mysterious portals begin appearing throughout Fortuna spewing forth ghastly demons. What is the reason for this demonic invasion, is Dante responsible?

Devil May Cry 4 is an epic story where the lines between good and evil are constantly blurred. Taking full advantage of the advanced graphical and processing power of the next-gen systems it draws gamers into the rich and highly detailed world of Fortuna and its surrounds with more enemies than ever before and some of the most breath-taking bosses ever conceived.

Devil May Cry 4 includes the following features:

• From the producer of the original Devil May Cry® and Resident Evil® 4
• 2 playable characters – take control of both Nero & Dante
• High-definition visuals moving at 60 frames per second
• Blend of familiar and new: newcomer Nero clashes with veteran Dante plus appearances from Trish, Lady and others from the DMC series
• Exceed System allows Nero to easily charge up his sword with a throttle effect, revving up to three levels with powerful and varied attack options
• Deep combo system rewards stylish dispatching of enemies
• Unique “Devil Bringer” arm opens up a range of never seen before combo options
• Distinct set of weaponry and moves for Nero and Dante
• New active style change system for Dante allows him to switch styles and weapons on the fly, producing crazy combo possibilities
• Numerous new characters and environments
• Signature blend of guns and swordplay

Better than watching a Mass Effect Character Spotlight video over at 1PStart, eh? Though it does look seriously realistic….wow!

40GB is da shiz!

by

Hellloo again! Following on from the previous post about the 40GB PS3..

The 40GB seems to be doing wonders for the PS3! Sales are arising all over the world, especially in the UK!

The cheaper 40GB PS3 sku, which launched at GBP 299 last wednesday, has increased UK sales by a whopping 178%, sealing it in at the third highest sales week since the PS3’s launch in the UK. Getting beaten by the Nintendo Family, it has still reigned sovereignity over the Xbox 360 (coming at fourth place).

This is a clear message to Sony: there’s people out there loving your PS3, but don’t have enough money to buy one. Reduce the price a teeny weeny bit, find cheaper ways of manufacturing the different features, and you will get the customers and the users who will surely get the cash rolling in $$$.

However, not all information regarding the 40GB PS3 is ‘da shiz’. Seems like only Korea and Japan will be getting the oh-so-longed ceramic white 40GB PS3. Oh well. However, there is speculation that the ceramic white PS3 may ship out to other countries and regions, such as North America and Europe.
Perhaps Australasia and Ocenia might be on your minds, Sony?

Hmm..come to think of it, why doesn’t the PS3 have skins like the Xbox 360…wait, that’d look weird :P

Better stick with that shiny glossy black PS3 for now then!

Until one comes out at a store near you, this’ll do fine:

PS3 ceramic white

Sequels everywhere!

Hey guys,

Seems like a lot is being announced these few days! Haze, Warhawk, Resistance-it doesn’t end there!

Haze
Haze will be having 4 player co-op! Yes, that’s right, FOUR PLAYERS! With the developers Free Radical (creators of TimeSplitters), famous for putting next generation features into their games, this will indeed be a fun ride for all. Don’t forget Nectar-that sweet performance enhancing drug that the soldiers will use, perhaps this may enhance the 4 player experience? Maybe one will get a high dosage of side effects and attack friendlies..and it’s all part of the story!

Warhawk will also be getting a downloadable expansion! And could be released BEFORE the holidays are over!

Jobe, the director of Warhawk has already stated:

“We’ve already made significant updates on the server-side to help issues with stats and connectivity, and we will further update the community with additional server-side updates, as well as client-side patches.”

An expansion pack has also been hinted, perhaps introducing new game modes, maps, classes, vehicles, weapons? Warhawk could get a LOT more interesting during the next month or so…

And here we come to what many hardcore PS3-FPS hybrid fans’ consider to be their favourite game: Resistance:Fall of Man.
Resistance:Fall of Man went up to number 8 from number 22 on the UK sales charts this week, despite many religious anti-Resistance views (*cough* blowing up the church *cough*)

I digress…the main news, however, is that in November 2008 (why do all the good things happen in November?..), Resistance:Fall of Man 2 may be released!

This time, it’s going to take place in the United States, with a Chimerian invasion of various major cities (finally the US gets its ass slapped).
Add vehicles + possible flying vehicles in multiplayer, and you get a massively awesome title I probably will buy. (Hmm..when’s Killzone 2 getting released again…)
And all this in Resistance 2, for a climatic finish in Resistance 3! Don’t you just love PS3 news!

Sure beats some random game called “The Club” where people fight in urban battlefields, travelling around the globe eh? Pfft…:P

Aye? Playstation Eye!

by

PS3 40GB

Hey everybody!

As you can see from the above picture, it shows what the PS3 40GB box will have on it. Noe the PS2 games not able to perform on the 40GB model-what a bummer. That’s what you get for a bargain, I suppose.

Also on Blu-ray news:
Sony is working on a new PS3 firmware update that will improve Blu-ray playback! It will improve and include innovative Blu-ray interactivitiy. Blu-ray is already working a dream on the PS3 - perhaps better now?

Now for the main feature: The Playstation Eye!

It has been revealed that the Playstation Eye will be shipping to a store near you on October 23rd with a retail price of $39.99 (US).

This comes as great news, as it differs quite a lot from the old EyeToy:

“One question I’ve seen asked a lot is: “What makes PlayStation Eye different from its predecessor, the EyeToy camera?” Lots. For a start, PlayStation Eye was engineered from the onset to perform well in low-light conditions. It also has a 2-setting zoom lens (normal and wide angle) with fixed focus. What does that mean? Well, a lot less fussing around than previous cameras. PlayStation Eye gets a sharp, clear picture at 640 x 480 resolution at 60 frames per second (at 320 x 240 it looks even better at 120 fps)! It picks up image and motion in varying light conditions and doesn’t need your help to focus.”

“It also has a built-in 4-microphone array that allows you to enjoy online AV chat and in-game voice chat, in what we’re calling a “natural environment,” meaning, not awkwardly leaning toward your camera or speaking abnormally loud just so the mic picks up your voice. IMHO, this microphone really does do away with the need for a headset.”

“The PlayStation Eye does an excellent job of filtering out background noise for a clearer voice connection, but it also has twice the frame rate than most standard cameras (this is part of what sets it apart from any other webcam or camera for this generation of consoles), allowing for faster and more natural tracking, responsiveness and smoothness. I think if you take all of this into consideration, PlayStation Eye is an ideal camera for AV Chat on your PS3.”

Woooh! So technically if this works out as it should be, this should definately own the current webcam provided for the Xbox 360. And with microphone capabilities, this will surely dissolve your need for a headset (unless you got a *cough* free headset by buying the retail version of Warhawk).

And from my recollection, won’t the Playstation Eye or something else also have 3d sensing capabilties or something? It was able to sense different things on screen, like a sofa, ‘you’, chairs, etc. Something that was WORTH buying a PS3 for.

Also you can also head to youtube and find a …E3 2005 or 2006 demo of the PS3 (before it came out). Had an Eyetoy-ish live demonstration with rubber duckies and glasses. Definately worth checking out.

This sure beats news of an Unreal III demo coming out, doesn’t it! Heh..heh..*laughs before running away*

Enjoy the week, everyone. I’ll be off complaining to my ISP why my download of the CoD4 demo didn’t work as planned. Speaking of demos, the Simpsons game demo is on the PSN networks at the moment. Go check it out, this one’s a sure-fire bam.

FIFA 08 - actually beating Halo 3 in Spain and Germany? + U.S. release date for 40GB PS3!

by

Hey everybody,

FIFA 08

Exciting…and unusual news today! Apparently according to sales charts FIFA 08 has actually beaten Halo 3 for software sales in Germany and Spain! We all know how these countries love sport, and football (soccer) in particular, however seeming as many people in Germany love FPS games, it comes as quite a surprise! ET:QW came as a surprise too, as boy was that buggy..*whistles~*

Here are the full sales charts for the two countries:

Spain

01. FIFA 08 (PS2)
02. Halo 3 (Xbox 360)
03. FIFA 08 (PS3)
04. Halo 3 Limited Edition (Xbox 360)
05. WWE Smackdown VS. Raw Platinum (PS2)
06. MySims (DS)
07. Heavenly Sword (PS3)
08. FIFA 08 (PSP)
09. Halo 3 Legendary Edition (Xbox 360)
10. FIFA 08 (Xbox 360)

Germany

01. FIFA 08 (PS2)
02. FIFA 08 (PC)
03. Halo 3 (Xbox 360)
04. The Settlers - AEK (PC)
05. FIFA 08 (PS3)
06. FIFA 08 (Xbox 360)
07. Halo 3 Limited Edition (Xbox 360)
08. Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (PC)
09. The Sims 2 Bon Voyage (PC)
10. More Brain Training (DS)

Also great news for those in the U.S:

Sony will be launching the 40GB PS3 in the United States bundled with a Spiderman 3 Blu-ray film on November 2nd at $399!

This is great news and bad news as the same time, as the PS3 will not have backwards capabilities, no memory card slots and only 2 USB ports, however this is of course definately a more affordable version for gamers who just want to get a PS3 and start gaming with all those fantastic titles out now. Bundles as a Blu-ray player as well, so wooh!

40GB should also last you for a while, but if not, you could always customise it ;) (Google’s your answer to this!)

Sony’s fantastic Singstar (which I am in dire need of at the moment) also does not have a release date set firm yet! Thought to be released in between July and September, this has passed with no release. There are some suggesting October or November, as Sony is now optimising the online part of Singstar to ensure a rich and impressive Singstar experience. It seems with this Singstar, there will be a large downloadable library of songs, videos, etc to be added on the PSN (PlayStation Network), much like what Gran Turismo will be like (with its large downloadable library of cars instead!)

So that’s it for today! You could always wait for FIFA 08, or Crysis! Or both at the same time! (Here’s a new gaming video released)

Video looks absolutely downright sexy. Even as sexy as when I’m wearing tights singing “I dont wanna keep dancing” after a couple o’ drinks with mah new shiny silver PS3 ;)

Sony PS2-smashin’ the opposition down ‘ere in Aussieland?

by

Hey guys,

PS2 smash

Interesting news today! It seems that the Sony PS2 has come back rumbling from the shadows and has beaten most of the opposition - in Australia! It fell behind the Nintendo DS, though it did smash the Wii in sales! The Wii won the next-gen sales for this quarter, however the sales numbers for Australia from the quarter of July to the end of September for the PS2 goes to a whopping 66228 consoles, ahead of most of the competition (Wii, Xbox 360, PSP, PS3)

Here’s the sales for ya’ll to wonder in awe:

Nintendo DS
2007 Q3 sales: 139,483
Total install base: 730,076

PlayStation 2
2007 Q3 sales: 66,228
Total install base: 2,118,646

Nintendo Wii
2007 Q3 sales: 61,027
Total install base: 167,899 (launched December 2006)

Xbox 360
2007 Q3 sales: 40,467
Total install base: 222,136 (launched March 2006)

PlayStation Portable
2007 Q3 sales: 28,374
Total install base: 317,442

PlayStation 3
2007 Q3 sales: 27,533
Total install base: 82,261 (launched March 2007)

This time, PS2 wins ;)

Also, yesterday I got in the mail (e-mail) this:

PS3_40_GB.PNG

(By the way, if you haven’t figured out yet, I live in AUS, so the European price will apparently be 399 Euros.)

Woo! Sorry you can’t see that well, if it was full-size the layout with the text and everything would become quite the weird as has happened in earlier posts. Bad news that I have found about this is that the PS3 will NOT be backwards compatible, and feature 2 USB ports and no multimedia card reader. SCEE (Sony Computer Entertainment Europe) has also confirmed that the 40GB model will have a ‘matte’ finish instead of the glossy black ones such as on the 60 and 80GB units. Wait…they also said that it would come in ‘Satin Silver’!
This is indeed great news! Finally PS3 owners can start getting those sexy silver PS3s so envied at E3 and other trade shows!

You can also find news about this here. Dunno how the 5 sexy close-up shots of the (black) PS3 has to do with this, but then again, they probably don’t know about the silver yet :P

And yet again PS3rally.com dominates its opposition Xbox360rally.com. As seen in their latest post, they want to leave :O to cover a whole lot of gaming news at 1pstart.com. Which means they’ll be covering Sony and PS3 news, meaning they’re finally seeing the light.

If you like the Xbox 360 and love to write, come join our friendly 451 Press Corporation. Just send in a form HERE, and wait for a response. It’s not that hard, come on even I got in ;)

Ah ha ha! Halo 3’s graphics suck so much, BBC decides to use Killzone 2 instead!

by

Hey guys,

THIS should be a massive laugh to everyone, especially to the Microsoft fanboys who are stating the Halo 3 have the best graphics out there:

Perhaps they’ll accidentally make Killzone 2 toys instead of the Halo 3 ones?

New PS3 sku!

by

Hello everybody!

PS3

Sony has submitted a new FCC! There’s a brand new 40GB PS3 sku and it will be released on November 16th! This PS3 will be priced at $399, offering a more affordable alternative to the 60GB and the more recent 80GB released. Sony has been trying to keep this new sku secret since they do not want to harm sales of the retail PS3 skus already in circulation. It also seems that this sku is coming with some goodies - Dual Shock THREE, and improvements to many areas including Wifi and Bluetooth.

The PS3 sku will include a new 65nm processor, a Dual Shock 3 controller and also be far less power hungry than before.
WiFi and Bluetooth has also been upgraded and now have more power in them. They will now be able to detect various networks and devices with greater ease.

That means, if you have 4 friends living close to each other, you might be able to play LAN multiplayer! Faster too, so no one will have problems and blame lag as not owning someone with a headshot in CoD4 or even Killzone 2 ;)

The FCC filing will go public 45 days from September 4th unless something changes.

Seems better than playing Super Mario on the Wii, or helping Brandon over at Gaming MMO with opinions on the newest Guild Wars add on: Eye of the North doesn’t it? (By all means help him :P)

Ratchet and Clank has gone gold!

by

Hey everybody!

The start to October is somewhat pleasant and surprising indeed!

Ratchet and Clank:Tools of Destruction

It seems that Ratchet and Clank:Tools of Destruction has gone gold! It has left testing and is now being processed onto Blu-ray discs ready for its release which is in just mere weeks. The game was originally set to release on October 23, however is now set to release on October 30 as Insomniac (the people who also created Resistance:Fall of Man) has been hard at work fitting everything they could onto a Blu-ray disc.

More exciting news as well!

I am also happy to report that we are wrapping up work on an updated and optimized version of our E3 demo (which is also available at Gamestop if you pre-order RCF) as I type this, and should be available via PSN in North America by October 11. The demo will be of Metropolis, the signature level in the Ratchet & Clank franchise. Well, it was the signature level… before we blew it to bits in this demo :)

A demo being released on October 11 through the Playstation Network? Sounds absolutely marvelous.

Should make a nice birthday gift to anyone! (*My birthday is October 30 ;) )

Of course, who could forget the upcoming games for October!

NBA 08 (Oct 02)
NBA Live 08 (Oct 02)
NBA 2K8 (Oct 02)
Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights (Oct 08)
Folklore (Oct 09)
FIFA Soccor 08 (Oct 09)
Sega Rally Revo (Oct 09)

Quite a lot of NBA’s , eh! Well, that’s for the first part of October. Don’t forget Ratchet & Clank on the 30th as well!

Folklore caught my attention. Thought it was an MMORPG, perhaps brought by NCSoft or SOE (see here), however its an RPG with a VERY interesting storyline…

“Two strangers are drawn to the mysterious town of Doolin, where it is said that the living can speak to the dead. They soon learn the town serves as a gateway to fantastic worlds that exist beyond our own, realms full of creatures, fairies, spirits, and monsters. In order to solve the mystery of the town, the pair must journey through these worlds to discover their secrets.

Will they have the courage to survive the adventure that awaits them?”

That looks like a must get for me ;) Perhaps there is a demo lying around somewhere on the PSN? :P

It also appears that Orange Box for the Xbox 360 is going to be released on October 10. Don’t fret, the PS3 release is November 13th, albeit several weeks later but still on the PS3. See here.

As always, great fun for October!

Have fun guys ;)
