Pachter: $499 entry-price here to stay

(I love that picture, for whatever reason)
When we heard that the 60 GBPS3 was having it’s price dropped to $499, we were all pretty stoked. Then it was learned that Sony was, in fact, phasing out the 60GB PS3, leaving the new 80GB model the only option at $599. So really, the price drop was temporary.
…now Michael Pachter is saying that we should expect the 80GB PS3 to drop down to $499.
We believe that there are presently 2-3 million 60GB PS3s produced and not yet sold, and expect the entire supply to be diverted to the US to honor the new lower price point.
Once these units are sold through, we expect the company to lower the price of its 80GB model to USD 499 on a standalone basis.
Pachter went on to cite the new software emulation as a potential production cost for Sony that could lead to another price drop sometime next year.
We expect the USD 499 price cut to be maintained until early next year, when the 80GB model will likely be cut again to USD 399.
…that’s just crazy talk…
