Rumor: Timesplitters to be PS3 Exclusive?

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

timesplitters_screen001.jpg

Here’s something to make you PS3 owners out there fairly happy. About a month ago, Ubisoft head honcho Yves Guillemot noted that Ubisoft was currently hard at work on a Playstation 3 exclusive title. He didn’t give a name for their project, but all the same it was awesome news, since Ubisoft is one of the top developer/publisher houses in the world.

Naturally, we all figured they were referring to the upcoming Free Radical shooter Haze, which at the time was understood to be a PS3 exclusive. This has since been debunked by just about everyone under the sun. After the announcement that Haze would (eventually) be coming to the Xbox 360 and PC as well as the PS3, the news of Ubisoft working on a PS3 exclusive seemed to die down.

Well, you can thank OPM UK for picking that rumor right back up. In the latest issue of OPM UK, they claim that Ubisoft is, in fact, working on Timesplitters 3, and absolutely nothing else. No details of any kind. Just that they’re working on Timesplitters 3.

Now, it would be nice if they were, of course. But until I see something with a little more substance than that, I think I’m just going to let that one slide into that rumor mill-lookin’ thing.

Sixaxis to have rumble. At last.

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

sixaxis.jpg

It was a pretty long, drawn-out battle that Sony had with Immersion regarding the rumble technology that we have come to not so much love, but expect in our controllers. Let’s be perfectly honest with ourselves — after ten years of having your controller shake, It was awkward to not feel that familiar shake, rattle and roll when you got owned by a twelve year-old half a continent away.

Well, now that Sony and Immersion are BFF again, it looks like Sony is ready to acknowledge that rumble isn’t as “last gen” as they made it out to be. Now, I’m going to warn you… I know little about French. I took a class in 7th grade, and that’s it. So this translation… it may be rough. From the French Playstation Magazine:

The gyroscopic functions can cohabitate with the vibrations. The explanation? The speed to which a player can move the guage is quite lower at the speed of the vibrations. The engine of vibration could be included in the guage without having to modify the form of it. There is enough room for the new engine, and this one, [curtesy?] of Immersion, are lighter for an obstruction equivalent.

One would have to expect a reduction in the autonomy of Sixaxis. Nevertheless, the new vibration motor does not consume more than the old models (Dualshock) in spite of the fact that it is more powerful. The new engine is less expensive to build, and a possible rise in price of the pad should be only very small. With an update of the firmware, we will be able to have the vibrations for playing PS2 [games as well].

To any French majors out there… I am SO sorry for butchering that translation. Either way, people… Sixaxis is getting rumble. Rejoice. And print the press release in English, for God Sake!

Fallout 3 FTW

Friday, June 29th, 2007

Finnish magazine Pelaaja grabbed a few scans of the game
Fallout 3, in progress and what can you say other than God damn it’s Fallout it must be good especially since Bethesda is the name behind the game.
fallout-3-scan-25555.jpg

These scans look great and will probably satisfy the rabid part of the fans for a while.
fallout-3-scan-3.jpg
The scans confirm Bethesda’s previous confirmation of using a modified Oblivion engine and keeping the 1st and 3rd person perspective for RPG narrative. According to pcgamingrally.com the Ps3fanboys will be updating with more scans and screen shots as they come in.

Fallout 3 is scheduled for release in fall of 2008 and comes for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

PS3 Prepping Killzone Beta

Friday, June 29th, 2007

killzone-2-3.jpg

Ok, so here’s the deal: There’s an e-mail going around to PS3 owners which states that the Playstation Network is gearing up for the beta to Killzone 2. The e-mail reads:

PlayStation Network is getting Killzone battleready, and we’re looking for beta testers to provide crucial feedback. You must have access to a PlayStation 3 system that is connected to the internet via broadband connection, an active PlayStation Network account, and be 18 years or older. If you want to participate in this beta simply reply “yes” to this message and you will be notified via e-mail if you are accepted.

Now, I can’t confirm or deny this, but it seems like the logical step. We’ve all known for a long time that Sony would counter the Halo 3 hype somehow, and by announcing the beta for Killzone 2, a game that got almost ALL the hype at E3 a couple of years earlier, they may have that retaliation.

Unless Killzone 2 winds up sucking. But let’s not dwell on that.

Rainbow Six Vegas Ships for PS3

Friday, June 29th, 2007

rainbow-six-vegas.jpg

Hello boys and girls… yeah, I’m shocked as hell to be here, too. Now, before I start on anything, let me just say that yes, I KNOW I’ve said some pretty mean things about the PS3 in the past, but for the next couple of weeks while Tommy is off in Bangladesh wrestling lions, I promise to be impartial. With that said, let’s get to the goods, shall we?

Rainbow Six Vegas, one of the Xbox 360’s top sellers, has shipped for the Playstation 3. If you haven’t played through Rainbow Six Vegas yet, now is your chance to jump in to one of the most intense gaming experiences you can ask for.

The stakes are high when the world’s most elite counter-terrorism unit enters Las Vegas, a city more than 36.7 million men, women and children visit each year. “Sin City,” the home of the Las Vegas Strip, flashy hotels, high-rolling casinos and world-famous celebrities, becomes the setting for a terrorist threat of global proportions. What happens when one of the world’s most famous cities is held hostage by terrorists?

What happens? You grab some weapons and kick major ass, that’s what happens! Now, in addition to the single-player campaign, Rainbow Six 3 offers one of the best online games around, and the PS3 will have ten new multiplayer maps and two new modes of gameplay to keep you coming back for more, and more, and more, and more, and… well, more.

Rainbow Six Vegas is currently retailing for $59.99.

Friday, June 29th, 2007

So if you never played Sid Meiers games claiming you are not a PCgamer now you can’t escape anymore …
The popular Sid Meier series is coming to Xbox 360 and PS3 in spring 2008 and it’s called Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution.

The Sid Meier games has sold over 8 million copies world-wide and Firaxis games will be optimizing this mix of war and diplomacy for the console.

This is from the Press release:
Delivering Civilization’s renowned epic single-player campaigns featuring vast re-playability and unmatched addictive game play as well as revolutionary features like real-time interaction with leaders and advisors, extensive multiplayer capabilities and integrated video and voice chat, it will completely transport the Civilization series to a level of game play that fans have never seen before.

Some of the key features that will resonate with fans of strategy games and the Civilization franchise include 16 civilizations to master and lead to victory, an array of famous historical leaders to play as or compete against, and accessible maps and streamlined time scale for quicker games, intense combat, and constant action.
In online multiplayer mode, players will compete for world conquest and glory among their peers as they battle in teams, head-to-head or epic free-for-all matches. In addition, auto-matching, ranked games, leader boards, achievements, downloadable extra content and integrated video and voice chat make the online play more versatile and fun than any previous version of Civilization and will allow players to see where they stand against the competition. Finally, the position of ruler of the world can be settled online.

As I sad Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution will be released in spring 2008!

Fire it up!

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

Hey!

It seems that today (19/06/07) registration has opened for the first official Resistance:Fall of Man tournament!
You must be 18 years or older and a US resident unfortunately, but for those meeting the requirements, be sure to give it a go!

www.playstation.com has the fun!

For those unavailable to compete, you can all join in fun ‘Resistance Fridays’ on the first and third Friday of the month from 5-6 pm PST. Next one is Friday 22nd, so be sure to get online for some smashing fun!

On an odd note: Microsoft has started sueing Immersion to block the PS3 Rumble feature! It seems they have spent $26 million for licensing rights and binding agreements for the rumble technology, and with Immersion settling with Sony allowing their PS3 Controllers to have rumble, they have gotten quite upset!

Also, Ken Kutaragi, founder of the Playstation has retired! Ken Kutaragi, at 56 years old, has finally stepped down after an amazing and fantastic career, and has been replaced with Kazuo Hirai, former SCE President and chielf operating officer.

That’s quite some news, and more tomorrow! After that, I’m going to Germany ;)

Have fun!

PS3 Propaganda day! …and Playstation Trucks?

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

Hey guys!

Time for some awesome ‘propaganda’!
It seems that Sony has managed to sell 1 Million PS3s in 10 weeks. This makes it even stronger and shows than it was able to beat the PS2 and the PSOne, as they did not even get that many units sold in just 10 weeks.

And..Playstation Trucks!
Similar to the Nintendo Fusion Tour, Sony will be using its Playstation Trucks! They will set up demo stations city to city, to let people test the newest software and hardware. Sounds awesome, eh!

And of course, the biggest, largest, best news of all:
PS3 Game Price Drops Below $40!
That’s right, $40!
When before, PS3 and Xbox 360 games were $60, Sony has now announced that PS3 games will now be priced below $40!
Best Buy and all them retailers are gearing up, and it can be seen in Best Buy’s big advertisement to sell some sweet games at $39.99!

Virtual Fighter 5, originally priced at $59.99, is now experiencing a $20 price drop! Amazing!

Perhaps the PS3 is shaping up to be what it was designed to be…

And did I not forget, Killzone 2, the killer title for the PS3, is under massive work! Perhaps we might get a Public Beta before the holidays, and who knows how good it may be ;)

Have fun,
Tommy

Dang! No more ‘extra’ fun

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

Hey guys,

Well, it is interesting news to hear that The Playstation Home service will only have humans. No extra terrestrial aliens or weird monsters, sorry. Sony has stated that they want to make it a ‘realistic’ world, similar to Second Life.

It may be a wise move in the end, but for those that want to ‘extra’terrestrial fun, we’re sorry.

-Tommy

Fun, fun, and just more fun!

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

Hey guys!

It seems that there is awesome news-F.E.A.R Sequels on the way for the PS3!

And, surprisingly, this time, not ONE, but TWO sequels!
Due to a contract problem there is going to be 2 sequels produced, F.E.A.R 2 by Vivendi and another by Monolith and Warner Bros. Awesome eh!

Monolith is now letting you, the gamers, decide on the title for their sequel! Just go to www.nameyourfear.com and you can submit a title in, but remember, submit it BEFORE June 22! After that, the top titles will be put on and gamers can vote for the title they want for the F.E.A.R Sequel.

www.nameyourfear.com should work, however it isn’t for me….oh well, probably a temporary network issue ;)

This week has been fun, so far, eh!

Also, for those that want a hardcore, stunning visuals for their PS3, and are searching around for a HDMI cable for the best visuals, it seems Nyko is the answer. Their HDMI Cable, retailing for just $59.99, appears to be outstanding, and crushing their competitiors in providing the best cable and visuals needed. Although the price is a bit high, it’s well worth every cent!
